I've been giving some thought to the utter lack of originality being displayed by the BBC in commissioning 'new' programmes, which are in effect endless derivatives of its own existing line-up, and I thought, if I can't beat them, why not join them?
Which is why I would like to suggest we have a 'new' programme aimed at finding the UK's best shoemaker, by having a programme where shoemakers are set a series of tasks over succeeding weeks that are then judged by 'witty' and 'engaging' experts egged on by a 'celebrity' presenter who is even 'wittier' and more 'engaging' before one is voted off.
We could call it 'Cobblers'.
A special edition at the end, reuniting all those voted off through the weeks, could be 'A Load of Cobblers'.
A niche version aimed at shoemakers of advancing age could be called 'Old Cobblers'.
And their end-of-term reunion could be 'A Load of Old Cobblers'.
Actually, the more I jest about it, the more I like the idea. If any BBC executive out there fancies it, remember that it was mine...except that, surely, I cannot be the only one having such thoughts.
