Every time I put a piece of plastic into another piece of plastic, I am struck by how recycling has become a religious rite equivalent to saying prayers and venerating household gods.
Those who practise it have in effect reverted to the culture of the ancients: worshipping nature.
Those who don't are threatened with global warming, or, as we used to call it when I was growing up in the 1960s, The Big Bad Fire.
And simply paying lip service isn't enough for the eco-fundamentalists. You have to BELIEVE!
